Moi przodkowie wywodzą się z ziem zagarniętych w I rozbiorze Po;ski (1772) i nazywanych Galicją. Austriaccy zaborcy, zagarnięte ziemie dzielili na cyrkuły i dystrykty. Podział na cyrkuły trwał do 1854 roku, kiedy cyrkuły przekształcono na urzędy obwodowe, a te stopniowo na powiaty. Granice cyrkułów i ich nazwy zmieniały się wielokrotnie, a nazwa cyrkułu pochodziła od jego siedziby. Szczególnie interesują mnie ziemie Galicji zachodniej, cyrkułu nazywanego w różnym czasie wadowickim, myślenickim, wielickim. Interesuje mnie także Cyrkuł sandomierski – powstały na części obszaru zagarniętego przez Austrię w III rozbiorze Polski (1795).
Cyrkuł sandomierski był jednym z 12 cyrkułów Nowej Galicji, podporządkowanych Zachodnio-Galicyjskiej Nadwornej Komisji Urządzającej, a od 1797 Gubernium Krajowemu dla Galicji Zachodniej w Krakowie. Jego stolicą był Sandomierz, a od 1798 – Opatów. Cyrkuł został zniesiony po reformie administracyjnej 1803 roku.
Materiały historyczne dot. gospodarki Galicji w latach 1772-1867 znajdują się nie tylko w archiwach i bibliotekach Polski i Austrii, ale także Ukrainy.
